1 C flour (not self-rising or cake flour; use regular flour)
1/2 C salt
1 1/4 Tbsp. alum
1 Tbsp. oil
1 C water
A Few drops of the food coloring of your choice

Mix flour, salt and alum in a bowl, sit aside.
Add oil, water, and food coloring to a sauce pan and warm up on medium heat.
Add dry ingredients.
Stir constantly as to mix together thoroughly.

It will start to form clay dough immediately.
If it starts to form dough too quickly, add 2 Tbs. of water to thin out.
Remove from heat and place in an airtight container (I use empty cake frosting cans).
It's ready to be played with by the kids as soon as it's cooled down.
Note, you can multiply the ingredients and make a larger white batch and add the food coloring later to make different colors but it's much easier to add the food coloring into the wet ingredients.
