German Apple Dish (Mouldashes) Ingredients


Apple Mixture:



3 lbs apples, peeled and sliced

1/2 cup sugar



Dough:



2-1/2 cups flour

1 tsp salt

1/2 tsp baking powder

1/3 cup shortening

3/4 cup milk



Basting Mixture:



2 cups milkd

1 tbsp shortening

2/3 cup sugar

 


German Apple Dish (Mouldashes) Cooking Instructions


Mix sugar into peeled and sliced apples.  Divide into four small bowls.

Blend flour, salt, baking powder and shortening until it resembles coarse crumbs.

Add milk and stir, form into 4 equal balls of dough. 

Roll each ball into oblong shape, about 5 inches wide and 9 inches long.

Fill with prepared apples and seal edge with a tiny amount of water.

Place the four apple bundles side by side in an ungreased 9x13 baking dish.

Place in preheated oven, 350 degrees.

Start to baste when dough begins to brown.

Use about 1/3 of the Basting Mixture to baste.

Baste every 15 minutes until all mixture is gone.



Baking time, approximately 1 hour.
