Danish Apple Squares

Danish Apple Squares Ingredients


2-1/2 cups flour

1 tsp salt

1 cup shortening

2 egg yolks

1 cup cornflakes, crushed

8 to 10 peeled and sliced apples

3/4 cup to 1 cup sugar

1 tsp cinnamon



Glaze:



1 cup powdered sugar

5 tsp milk, 2%


Danish Apple Squares Cooking Instructions


Combine flour and salt and cut in shortening.

Beat egg yolks in a measuring cup and add enough milk to make 2/3 cup of liquid; mix well.

Stir into flour mixture, mixing well.

Roll half the dough into 15x12 rectangle.

Place the dough into and up the sides of a 13x10 pan.

Sprinkle with crushed cornflakes.

Top with apple slices.

Sprinkle with sugar and cinnamon.

Roll out remaining dough and cover the apples.

Seal the edges and cut several slits in the top dough.

Beat 2 egg  whites until frothy and brush onto crust.

Bake at 375 degrees for 50 minutes.

Combine powdered sugar and milk and drizzle over top after cooled.

Cut into squares or bars.



You can make less glaze if desired.
